What is Takuzu?
Takuzu is a logic puzzle played on a grid with two symbols. Traditionally they're zeros and ones, which is why it's also known as the binary puzzle, Binairo or "Tic-Tac-Logic". It's a newspaper and puzzle-magazine favourite, especially in France.
In Fresi & Mori the zeros and ones are strawberries 🍓 and blackberries 🫐: same reasoning, but much easier to read at a glance.
Takuzu rules
- Every row and column has the same number of each symbol: on a 6×6, three strawberries and three blackberries.
- There can be no more than two of the same in a row.
- Classic Takuzu adds a third rule: no two rows or columns can be identical.
Our boards are designed to have a single solution using just the first two rules, so you'll never need the third. And every one can be solved by deduction, never by guessing.
How to start solving
Look for pairs first: if two strawberries sit side by side, the cells at either end must be blackberries. Then look for gaps: a cell between two strawberries is a blackberry too. When a row already has half of one symbol, the rest are the other. Those three ideas solve most small boards; for the big ones, read our guide on how to play, with tips.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play Takuzu?
Fill the grid so every row and column is half of each symbol and there are never three of the same in a row. Start with pairs and with gaps between two matching symbols.
Are Takuzu and Binairo the same?
Yes, they're different names for the same kind of puzzle. It's also called the binary puzzle or Tic-Tac-Logic.
Can I play Takuzu free on my phone?
Yes. Fresi & Mori runs in your phone or computer browser, free and with no ads, and you can install it as an app from inside the game.
What Takuzu sizes are there?
Here you get 6×6, 8×8 and 10×10 boards. In the full game you start at 4×4 and work up to 10×10.
Do I need the "unique rows" rule?
Classic Takuzu has it, but our boards have a single solution without it.
