How to play: rules and tips

Everything you need to solve any strawberry-and-blackberry board, from the easiest 6×6 to the toughest 10×10. Practise on the board while you read.

The rules

  1. Half and half: every row and column has as many strawberries as blackberries.
  2. Never three of the same in a row, horizontally or vertically.
  3. Golden cells are given and can't be changed.

To play, tap a cell: once for a strawberry, twice for a blackberry, three times to clear it.

Technique 1: pairs

When you see two matching fruits side by side, the cells at both ends must be the other fruit. Two blackberries in a row → a strawberry before and a strawberry after. You'll use this one constantly.

Technique 2: the gap

If there are two matching fruits with one empty cell between them, that cell is the other fruit — otherwise it would make three in a row.

Technique 3: counting

On a 6×6, each row has three strawberries and three blackberries. If a row already has its three strawberries, every empty cell is a blackberry. Always count when a row is nearly full.

Technique 4: completing the line

When the techniques above aren't enough, pick a row with few empty cells and ask how many ways it can be completed without breaking the rules. Often there's only one, or every option agrees on some cell.

When stuck: contradiction

On expert boards you'll reach a point where no technique works. Pick a cell and think: "if I put a strawberry here…". If following the rules leads to three in a row or an unbalanced line, it's a blackberry. That's not guessing — it's ruling things out.

And if you're still stuck, tap Hint: the game tells you which technique to use and where.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I start a board?

With pairs and gaps: they are safe deductions. Then count in rows and columns that are nearly full.

Can every board be solved without guessing?

Yes. Every Fresi & Mori board has a single solution and can be solved with logic alone.

What if I make a mistake?

Cells that break a rule turn red. You can undo, and the hint also warns you if a fruit does not match the solution.

What are baskets and ladybugs?

Extra rules in the full game: a basket is a 2×2 block with two strawberries and two blackberries, and cells with the same ladybug hold the same fruit.
